The History of the USWA

The USWA has been in business for three decades. In the late 1980's the USWA expanded from its traditional promotion base of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama to become a third national promotion (WCW and WWF are the other two). When a title unification match was held between Jerry "The King" Lawler and the late Kerry Von Erich that resulted in a Lawler victory, the USWA was firmly established with Lawler as Champion. After several years of national success, the USWA decided to return to its promotional roots in Tennessee. A partnership was dissolved and Jerry "The King" Lawler took the Unified World's Title back to Memphis. The title changed hands several times since, with WWF stars Papa Shango and Randy Savage among the 1993 champions, Sid Vicious as the title holder during much of 1994, Razor Ramon and Ahmed Johnson as recent champions. the USWA is presently available to approximately 35 million television households.
A who's who of today's wrestling have worked in USWA rings including:

Former WWF Champions Ultimate Warrior, Randy "Macho Man" Savage, and Hulk Hogan
Former WCW Champion Sting (one of the Bladerunners)
Jerry "The King" Lawler, Jeff "Double J" Jarrett, PG-13, Brian Christopher, Razor Ramon, Sycho Sid, Vader, Terry & Dory Funk, and many more.

The USWA often exchanges talent with the WWF. WWF performers Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Owen Hart, Brett Hart, Vader and Razor Ramon all appeared recently in USWA rings. USWA stars Jerry "The King" Lawler and PG-13 appear regularly in WWF matches.
